Cadillac Repair: 1995 Cadillac Eldorado ETC, head gasket problems, coolant leaks

Question
I do not have an owner's manual for this car I just bought, but I'm interested in a few items.

What is the highest temperature the coolant should reach in hot weather before overheating?  I've seen it as high as 256 degrees.  It may have a leak as it continues to be able to take more water periodically.

Also, should I take it in to a brake shop regarding the anti-lock brake light coming on occasionally?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards, Jason

Answer
220 to 230 degrees is normal operating temp at which time the cooling fan at the radiator will come on.

If you do NOT have any EXTERNAL coolant leaks from the vehicles engine then the most likely and most common fault is small leaks in the head gaskets that gets burned in the combustion chambers and causes you not to see any coolant or white smoke from the exhaust pipe.

You can check the thermostat for proper operation, But Inwould have the engine tested for head gasket problems.
