Cadillac Repair: Stalling 96 Deville, shaft sensors, crank shaft

Question
QUESTION: Hi Tom.  I have a 1996 Sedan Deville that keeps stalling out everytime I come to a stop or when I let off the gas to make a turn.  I took it to the dealer and they told me the EGR valve was no good, my throttle body needed cleaned and I needed a complete tune up).  Nice, but I wasn't paying 1300.00  I replaced the EGR valve and air filter, but it still stalls.  The engine doesnt miss so I know the plugs and wires are fine. Could it be the fuel filter?  I just don't want to keep playing a guessing game here and it cost me a small fortune.  Thanks.

ANSWER: The most likely suspect is a blackish residue on both sides of the throttle plate and the surrounding interior of the throttle body. you can use any type of aerosol cleaner to remove the residue.

What is happening is you have a residue builup on the throttle plate edges and the plate is not closig all the way.

QUESTION: I cleaned the throttle body and blade, clean as a whistle and it still is stalling.  Someone mentioned the crank shaft sensors?

Answer
If it was a faulty cranshaft sensor it would produce a CHECK ENGINE light or a MESSAGE DISPLAY.

Start the engine and manually open the throttle linkage with your hand at the throttle body about an inch and slowly let it return to the idle position and watch to see if the idle speed control motor metal threaded rod comes outward to meet the throttle linkage.
