Cadillac Repair: 1992 Deville, power steering rack, metal source

Question
QUESTION: Hello Tom, I have a 1992 Deville 4.9 engine it has a service engine light "on".  I checked for the codes and here is what I see:
"8.8.8 ..E E40 E52 E98 .E.E E40 ..F F32 .7.0". Could you help me with the codes and what they are for? Note the codes are not repeating (unless you cycle power), it just ends with last display reading ".7.0" is that normal?
Thank you for your time, it is very much appreciated.

ANSWER: What you want to do FIRST is to CLEAR (erase) all these codes and see which ones return.

If EE40 comes back, Replace the power steering pressure switch located on the power steering rack or check the wire for having ben shorted thru the insulation and grounding against a metal source.

After you replace the switch and or repair the wire. CLEAR the codes again and see if it comes back.

If you do NOT get any codes and all you see is .7.0 this is the end of the code search and you do NOT have any codes.

QUESTION: I was smart enough to figure out how to read the codes but not sure how to erase them other than pulling the ECM fuse or battery pos lead; is there push button way?

Answer
Disconnecting the battery or pulling fuses will NOT erase the codes.

1. Re-enter diagnostic and when you see the .7.0, Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and HI buttons  until you see E.0.0 and release the buttons. This will clear the "E" codes.

2. Re-enter diagnostic and when you see the .7.0, Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and LO buttons  until you see F.0.0 and release the buttons. This will clear the "F" codes.

3. Re-enetr diagnostics and see what codes re-appaer and let me know.
