Cadillac Repair: brake vacumm problem, vacuum problem, vacuum hose

Question
I have a 1996 Cadillac deville, and on the dash, the read out says "Brake vacuum problem." Explain this and what can be done to fix it? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Brian,

Thats a new one on me. Are you sure that it is a '96 and not an '06? I will need to do alittle research into both years and get back to you. Since you don't mention a problem with the brakes like lack of assist then it might be a problem with the sensor on the booster. Otherwise I would look for a vacuum hose being disconnected. One other possibility is that there is a code set or accessing scan tool data for the brake system would turn up the problem. However the scan tool that would be needed would be a professional one...not the $250 variety that the parts stores sell so you would need to take the car to your mechanic.

Let me know on the year and model so I can send the correct info. Bill
