Cadillac Repair: alarm, cadillac sts, door key

1997 cadillac sts.  when opening the door the alarm goes off. tryed turning the door key left to right..to reset doesnt work. tryed holding the valet switch for 7 seconds
it stops, however it goes off(the alarm) next time you open the door! help!!!!!!  my nabors are freaking!...lol.

Hi Drew,

     Because the drivers door lock is used so much there is a possibility that the switch is defective. You could try the passenger door because it should also disable the alarm. The keyless remote will also disable the alarm...you didn't mention having one but might be good to get and have programmed. There is a possibility that the alarm or one of the door lock switches is messed up.

     The best thing to do is to take it to your mechanic if they have a scan tool that will monitor the door lock switches or take it to the dealer and have it repaired. I remember something about a bulletin for a defective door module that could cause the alarm to sound but don't remember if it was for your year or the '96. They could look that up.
