Cadillac Repair: after market radio installation, wireing diagram, aftermarket radio

Question
Mr. Bill
I am trying to install an after market head unit into a 1999 Deville D'Elegance. I am experianced in audio installations, but for some reason, I am not getting power to the after market unit. I believe that it maybe because of the built in anti theft for the radio that stores the Automobile serial number, but I do not know how to over come this...please assist if you can.

Answer
Hi Chris,

If you haven't already I would suggest getting a wireing diagram with the radio that came with your car. As you probably know there are varrying voltages, less than and greater than 12 volts also available at the radio and if you tap into the wrong one that could be the reason for the aftermarket radio not wanting to play. The factory radio itself is responsible for the theft code so installing an aftermarket stereo shouldn't be a problem provided you use the correct wires. Then you can match up the factory wire to the new stereo wire that does the same thing. And depending on the radio option the wires you need to tap into might be inside the trunk behind the rear seat.

Since I have no way of sending a wireing diagram I would suggest going to the dealer and have them make a copy for you or subscribe to alldata.com and get the info there.

Sorry I can't be anymore help. Bill
