Cadillac Repair: cadillac timing, jumper wire, diagnostic connector

have timing issue with a 4.9l 92 sts,timing chain was never disturbed.. have brought #1 up and set distributor to fire on that mark.. car was idling ..i also bypassed the computer to do that now  im having timing isssues again .. starting all over how should i set the timing?

Jumper together the A and B terminals in the black diagnostic connector under the dash on the drivers side and the display will say SET TIMING MODE. adjust timing to 10 degrees at any speed below 800 rpm's.

Turn OFF the engine and remove jumper wire from diagnostic connector.
