Cadillac Repair: Steering noise., cadillac deville concours, power steering fluid

Question
Hello.  I own a 1998 Cadillac Deville Concours.  When the car is standing still, at a stop sign for example, and I turn the steering wheel it makes a grinding sound. It sounds like it's coming from the right wheel. I checked the power steering fluid and it's full. It doesn't really sound like the pump to me anyways. Any Ideas ?

Answer
Hi Dennis,

Noises are kind of difficult to diagnos if you don't hear them firsthand. That said, the thing I would be looking at is the strut bearing. It is circular like a lazy susan and what happens on cars over 75,000 miles is dirt can accumulate in the bearings and it can cause a grinding or popping because it resists turning and when it does the spring is suddenly turned and that sets up the noise.

If that is the problem I would recommend replaceing both sides and then you will need to get the alignment done. Let me know if I can be anymore help. Bill
