Hi Eva,

Usually when you get that message it means that the small wire comming from the ignition switch has flexed in half and the theft module can't read the key pellet resistance.

The first thing you should do is try the other ignition key and see if it also does the same thing. The key pellet can be cleaned with peroxide or rubbing alcohol and that can allow the pellet to be read propperly.

You could try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 15 minuits and rehooking it up and see if the problem has gone away.

Those are the easy things. Next step would be to remove the panel that is below the steering column and find the 2 wire connector that has an orange coating with 2 small white wires comming through it just below the steering column. Disconnect the connector and useing an ohmeter place the red lead on one wire and the black on the other that go to the steering column side. Now you should see a reading with the key in the lock cylinder. Turn the key several times to the start position and the reading should stay about the same. If it changes or if you don't get a reading place one lead on each side of the ignition key and then go to Radio Shack and buy a 1/4 watt resistor that is as close to the meter reading as you can. Cut the connector off and attach the resistor end to each wire and then tape it up. The next time the key is turned to start the engine should start.

Hopefully that should get you going. Otherwise let me know what happens and and I will give you some other things to try. Or you will need to take it to your mechanic. Bill

ok..these codes come out E052-B552-R026-R033-R034-R061-B448-ECM?..DO THESE CODES MEAN ANYTHING?...

Answer
Hi Eva,

After seeing the codes I question that your car is a 1991 especially since there are the R codes. Just out of curiosity how did you determine that those codes were stored? Starting from the left in the VIN number what is the 10th letter? If a 1991 it should be a letter M.

Here are the code descriptions but don't feel that there is any correlation between the codes and not starting.

    E052: ECM lost battery voltage
    B552: BCM lost battery voltage
    R026: driver initiator circuit open(SIR)
R033: no listing in 1994 ELDO
R034: dual pole arming sensor ignition feed open
    R061: SIR indicator circuit failure
B448: low freon pressure for the A/C

What I would suggest is to clear all the codes and then if any return they indicate there is a problem that is happening now. Otherwise those codes could have been set while in the shop and not cleared after the repair makeing them meaningless.

Bottom line is that none of those codes should keep the engine from starting and I need to know what year your car is for sure because those codes look like something newer than a 1991 vehicle. Thanks, Bill
