Cadillac Repair: electrical, northstar engine, negative cable

Northstar engine/ 97 deville/ 65k milessometimes car will not start. no "click" like it might be the starter.  when it does start..avg. mpg. mph. and fuel used guage have all been reset.  Any ideas

Hi Jimmy,

      Sounds like you could have a loose battery cable at the battery or where the negative cable attaches to the engine block at the front of the engine. If it were a bad starter nothing should have reset like you are experrianceing. One thing that would confirm the battery cable issue is if you turned on the headlamps and they didn't work along with the no crank. There is a fuse junction block area near the LF strut where a posative battery cable attaches. You might check there also to see if it is tight.
