Cadillac Repair: 60000 mile maintenance due, 1999 Cad Deville, dealer charges, upper cylinder

Question
What are important items? Dealer charges excessive. Thinking of going to Arizona Carcare Centers. What is your opinion?

Answer
IMO, ever since i started workin on Caddys there is always something new you run into that is unique to a cadillac and that takes forever to get past, once again its definately unique to a cadillac and not so much with other cars. The technicians at a dealership are so used to working on these cars that i would trust them over any german or japanese car specialist.
At 60,000 miles, this is what I would replace;
1. Spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap & rotor and coil(a northstar, however has an ignitor which will run about $350, this isnt an emergency to replace but its up to you, these usually will run until about 150,000 miles)
2. Cooling system flush.
3. Fuel filter and pump diagnostic.
4. Clean injectors, fuel lines if neccessary.
5. Clean upper cylinder, egr valve, and throttle body.
6. Change oil and air filter, may want to switch to a thicker oil like 10w-40. but 10-30 will return more miles to the gallon.
Now this is just what i would do, one thing to consider is, a new northstar costs $13,000, to get one overhauled costs $6,000. Is it better to save $300 now by going to a second hand shop or to go to either the dealer or a trustworthy shop and payin a little extra but you know your N* is running the way its supposed to.
