Cadillac Repair: 1987 Cadillac Broughm, old geezer, vacuum hose

Question
The parking brake release quit working. I am assuming a broken or disconnected vacuum hose or a defective component. I'm an old geezer with a bad back. Is there any advice or help locating the suspect parts you could pass along to make the job easier. Thank you, (and my back thanks you also)

Answer
Hi Ellis,

In my experriance the problem usually turns out to be the vacuum release solinoid that is mounted on the parking brake assembly. If the panel is still under the steering column then a 7mm or 9/32 socket can remove the bolts. Then remove the vacuum hose from the solinoid and with the parking brake on and the engine running put the gear selector in R or D and see if vacuum is present. If it is then replace the solinoid which is held on with 1 7mm bolt. If there isn't any vacuum you will need to follow the lines to see where the problem is. And that could mean an open in the engine compartment also.

     Hope that helps. Bill
