Cadillac Repair: HEAT AND AIR BLOWER, cadillac seville, houseing

Question
HELLO BILL,
I HAVE A 1989 CADILLAC SEVILLE. THE BLOWER AT ONE TIME CONTINUED TO BLOW AFTER THE MOTOR WAS TURNED OFF SO I HAD TO DICONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE TO KEEP IT FROM DRAINING. I WOULD RECONNECT THE BATTERY AND THE BLOWER WOULD AGAIN START BLOWING AND THE OFF SWITCH ON THE DASH FOR THE FAN WOULDN'T RESPOND AND CONTINUED TO BLOW. ONE DAY I PARKED THE CAR FIGURING I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BUT WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF THE BLOWER WAS NOT BLOWING AND STILL IS NOT BLOWING.THE BLOWER WAS CHECKED WITH A METER INDICATING THE BLOWER IS NOT BAD..WELL,BILL CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME ADVICE?

Answer
Hi Linda,

Usually when something like that happens it means that the blower motor is useing too much current/amps to start or run. After awhile is shorts out the power module that supplies the current for it. So my recommondation would be to replace the blower motor and power module and your problems should be solved. Especially if the motor has never been replaced or not in 4 or more years. The PM is located under the hood in the same houseing as the blower motor except it is at the top on the passenger side. It has 2 wire connectors and 2 7mm screws that hold it in place. If you decide not to replace the motor and module together then expect that the module will fail with-in the month.

Hope that helps explain things. Bill
