Cadillac Repair: 1968 Cadillac Coupe Deville, cadillac coupe deville, 1968 cadillac coupe deville

Question
I recently tried to take my coupe up to LA on christmas eve from orange
county on the 405 freeway and in long beach at about 65 -75 mph it started
a ticking noise near the dash and the the hood started to smoke a gnarly
smell came into the car. The engine preceeded to slow down, aceleration was
not achievable so it shut off and i pulled over on the side of the road. The
radiator had overheated and it was spilling all of the coolant on the ground,
the battery was dead, and the engine would not turn over with a jump. When
it was towed home I jumped it again with some more coolant in it and it
started. But only to notice it had a low idle and a terrible knock in the engine,
i took it about 500 feet around my street and it made that ticking noise in the
dash again. I know i screwed up by driving to la and not professionally having
it trailored!!! what do I do!?!?!?!?

Answer
If the smell was sweet, thats antifreeze. My guess would be it overheated, something blew, something along the lines of a head gasket. If it is internal damage, it may or may not pay to get it fixed, get an estimate at a machine shop or a good performance shop and consider swapping a nice crate motor in.
A compression test will tell you whether or not its internal and which cylinder mainly has the issue, if youd like to know how to perform this reply back saying so or email me.
