Cadillac Repair: 1991 Cadillac Eldorado cruise control, vacuum servo, cadillac eldorado

Question
I tested the vent and vacuum solenoids by applying 12v to them and they both open and close properly.  I even applied vacuum to the vent port to make sure it is sealing correctly.  I also applied vacuum to the line attached to the brake pedal and it also operated and seals properly.  If I'm not mistaken both solenoids opperate through a common ground so I don't think the problem lies there or I would be getting an "E62" code also.
I have one other related qusetion, will the "E61" code render the cruise control inoperative untill it's erased?

Thanks again,

Paul

Question -
I've got a 1991 Cadillac Eldorado with a 4.9L engine.  The cruise control doesn't work.  I checked the error codes and wound up with an "E61" code.  I replaced all the vacuum lines, checked the switch and the vacuum vent on the brake pedal and both were good.  I even pulled the servo and disassembled the valves inside and cleaned them.  I also checked the solenoids for continuity just to be sure there were no breaks in the wires and they were all OK.  I reassembled the vacuum servo, reinstalled it and  erased the codes from the computer.   I tried the cruise again.  No luck and the "E61" code was back.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Paul

Answer -
You have a problem with the VENT SOLENOID. Either replace it or I can give you an electrical schematic along with a test procedure to track down the EXACT cause.

Answer
Any time the check engine light comes ON, The cruise is automatically shut down by the computer until the fault is repaired and cleared from the computer.

I can provide you with the picture/directives to test and fix the E61 code. Contact me at: onlineautohelp@msn.com
