Cadillac Repair: removing stripped battery cable bolts, negative battery cable, 1990 cadillac seville

My son has a 1990 Cadillac Seville. The battery cables are located on the side. We have tried to remove the cable head from the battery but can't due to the bolts being stripped.  How do we remove them? HELP NEEDED ASAP!

Answer
Being EXTREMLY carful as not to cause a short circuit that could BLOW UP the battery cut the negative battery cable real close to the battery connector FIRST.

Then cut the positive cable in the same way and replace the ends with new connectors and replace the battery.
