Cadillac Repair: a/c compressor clutch installation, paper lunch bags, clutch installation

Question
Thankyou for the advice. I was under the impression that if you buy Delco Parts you do not have to do any modification- bolt it on and forget it. Is this an unreasonable assumption? The center hub of new clutch(the one with the keyway) stops at a position on the shaft which is exactly the identical position the old one occupied.

Question -
I cannot get the new a/c clutch(delco part# 15-4702) to slide into position on my 91 Deville (3.9 liter) HR6 compressor. Using a Matco installation tool I can get it within one eighth inch of the proper air gap and it will go on no farther. It stops like it hits a brick wall. I tried this twice, the second time I broke the installation tool. I am convinced that if I try again  I will either break another installation tool or yank the threads off the compressor shaft. Do I have the right part? Is the shaft bent? I replaced the pulley and bearing with delco part#15-20038.

Answer -
There are 2 different clutch drivers. Make sure your new driver is IDENTICAL to the old one.

If it is EXACTLY the same. Try installing it without the keyway to see if it fits to the proper air gap of .20 to .30". If you can get it to within these specifications. grind down the key way a little bit to make it slightly thinner OR grind down the shaft a little bit of the clutch plate.

Answer
It seems to be getting worse as the years go bye. people just don't seem to care about they way they make things correctly or not.

I have been in this business pushing 30 years and I have seen so many brand new parts right out of the box that was defective and sometimes more than that.

I have seen new cars with paper lunch bags shoved in the AC ducts where you had to take the whole dash apart to get the bag out so the air would flow.

i have seen empty glass bottles on the inside of door panels so they rattle around when you go over a bump or around a corner.

I have seen plastic bags stuffed in the radiator or in the engine cooling hoses and many more things you would not believe.

Did you get your problem resolved ?.
