Cadillac Repair: 1999 Cadillac Devile SRS indication, torque convertor, transmission shops

Question
I bought a 1999 deville concorse with 78000 miles in Florida and drove to Wisconsin. On the way the SRS light came on. There was no oil or temperature issues so I made it hone and took it in for an oil change and coolant flush.
My mechanic said it was a P0741 code which is excessive slippage of the torque convertor. He refered me to a transmission specialist who ststed this is common and will cost 1700 -2100 to rebuild.
  Can you offer any suggestions?

Answer
The trans may NOT have to be rebuilt. It depends upon what is found during the initial inspection of a couple of components in the valve body.

The biggest problem is that alot of transmission shops do not want to fix the fault, they would rather take your transmission out and put in a rebuilt transmission as they make more money this way.

I can e-mail you some pictures and a diagnostic chart as to what the possibilities are of what  is causing the problem and I would take these pages to some other transmission shops and let them run the tests according to the manufacturers instructions and you may NOT have to purchase another transmission.
