Cadillac Repair: tilt steering side to side play, pontiac manual, airbag system

Question
I took my caddy in for a state inspection. It passed inspection, But I noticed the steering wheel had some side to side play in it after i got it back. I am quite sure it was nothing they did when they inspected the car. It seems to be getting worse. Is there somewhere I can get a diagram of the column so I can see what i am getting into before I tackle this adventure? I stopped driving the car for fear of the wheel dropping off in my lap while driving down the road.
                Thanks,Caddy driver

Answer
Hi Caddy driver, You could go to autozone.com and on that site they have a vehicle repair guide. They have some basic info there and they only go down to replaceing the ignition lock cylinder with key. If you need to go further then ask the other Caddy expert the question but you will need to tell him the year and model that you have and he might be able to give you some pictures. If you have the airbag in the steering wheel then I would suggest taking it to your mechanic because if you don't follow procedures you could inflate the airbag and it could really injure you. Therewise try your local library because they might have GM factory shop manual you need or one simular. Most of the steering columns are very simular between makes so if you found a Buick or Pontiac manual the column could be the same. But again even if you get the manual I would caution you not to mess with it if it has the SIR/airbag system in the steeringwheel.
