Dear Bill : I bought a 1996 El Dorado from copart. The car wasn´t damaged alto just a little in the back and side. The problem is that the car cranks but does not start. I did check for spark and is ok but there is no fuel  and I can not hear the fuel pump. Please help me

Answer
Hi Carlos, First thing to do is check the fuel pump fuse. Then find and remove the relay. Useing a wireing diagram and test light you will need to test for power to the relay and that the computor can control the ground circuit for 2 seconds after the key has been turned on. If those 3 terminals test good then make a jumper wire with a 10amp fuse in it and jumper a power terminal to the pump terminal and listen for the fuel pump to work. If it does you might just have a bad relay and replaceing it might get the engine running. If you still don't hear the pump you will need to unplug the connector at the gas tank and check for power and ground for the pump. If you have them then you will need to drop the gastank and change the fuel pump module and check that terminal B...if memory serves...in the short harness is discolored/burned. If it is then the pump is definitely bad and you also need the short wireing harness. Both of those items might be dealer only parts.

Removeing the gastank on the ground isn't very easy especially if you can't get the car safely supported on stands at least 18" in the air. Plus if there is more than 3 gallons of gas in the tank you can get gas comming out after the bigger rubber filler hose is removed so you would need a pan underneith to catch it. This might be a good job to have towed to your mechanic if the pump is bad. Bill
