Cadillac Repair: 95 deville cranks wont start, camshaft sensor, wireing harness

Question
I parked my deville for 2 days, it was running fine. When I tried to start it on day 3 it won't start. I replaced the ign. module, rotor cap and button. It still won't start.I poured a small amount of gas in the carb. still wont even try to fire. Any thoughts?  4.9 v-8

Answer
Hi Bengy, An engine needs several things to start... compression, fuel, spark and injector pulse. I'll assume that the engine turns over at normal speed but it doesn't start.

If that is the case then since you poured some gas into the throttlebody and it didn't start that should mean you have a spark issue. The chances of a chain breaking is unlikely.  They make a tester that looks like a sparkplug with an allagator clip on it. What you do is remove a sparkplug wire from the sparkplug and attach the tester to the end of the wire and then attach the clip to something metal, crank the engine and look for spark. Since you replaced the ignition module the coil could be at fault and also the wireing harness inside the distributor has a tendency to go open at times. When that happens if you push off and warmer on the climate control with the key on after aprox. 5 seconds the computor will go into diagnostics. If there are any E-- or EE-- codes that could lead to the fix but if it is E41 or EE41 stored that is a problem with the distributor internal wireing harness or the camshaft sensor and the engine won't start. Just turn the key off and the dash will be back to normal the next time you turn the key on. There are some tests that need to be done to the coil with an ohmeter and also the cam sensor but unfortuneately they are rather complicated and I have no way of sending the procedures to you so if you subscribe to AllData.com you will get the info you need because Haynes or chilton manuals that you can buy at the parts store probably won't have that info in it.
