Cadillac Repair: Battery No Charge, crankshaft pulley, serpentine belt

Question
I have a 1995 Cadillac Sedan and I am getting a message on the dash that says "Battery No Charge". My car cranks but my steering wheel is locked. What could be the problem?

Answer
Hi Trumaine, Usually when the no charge message comes on it means the alternator is defective and needs to get replaced.

If the engine turns over but the steering wheel appears to be locked I would think that the serpentine belt has a problem and that maybe responsible for the no charge message also.

What I would do is open the hood and inspect the serpentine belt. If it is broken or off the pulleys you will need to figure out why by turning all the pulleys except the crankshaft pulley to make sure none of them are locked up. If one has locked or is hard to turn then that componant will need to get replaced along with the belt.
