Question -
The service air conditioning light is on.  Only Econo mode is available from the climate control.  A/C shop said system is fully charged.  They believe it's the climate control module in the dash that has failed and suggested I take it to the Cadillac dealer and have the climate control module replaced.  When you press the Auto button, AUTO displays for a brief second and then goes directly to ECON mode.  Compressor never turns on.  Fan motor runs good and all vent options work, defrost etc.

Answer -
Perform this simple task:

1. Ignition switch ON, Engine OFF.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons until all the segments in the display illuminate and then release the buttons.

3. Write down All the LETTER/NUMBER COMBINATIONS that appear on the display EXACTLY in the order they display.

4. When you see .7.0  turn off the ignition.

5. Let me know what the codes are.  

Answer
Are you SURE it's an 85 or an 86 ?.  Anyway replace the COOLANT SENSOR located just in front of the throttle body near the alternator. It has a 2 wire connector 1 yellow and one black wire. Be careful as anti-freeze will come out of the hole when you remove it.

once you replace the sensor:

1. Ignition switch ON, Engine OFF.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons until all the segments in the display illuminate and then release the buttons.

3. As soon as you see the codes appearing, Immediately simultaneously push and hold the OFF and HI buttons until E.0.0 appears and release the buttons.

4. You will see .7.0.




NEXT:


1. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons until all the segments in the display illuminate and then release the buttons.

2. As soon as you see the codes appearing, Immediately simultaneously push and hold the OFF and LO buttons until F.0.0 appears and release the buttons.

4. You will see .7.0. Turn OFF ignition.




Drive car and see if any codes reappear by performing the first procedure and let me know.
