Cadillac Repair: CADDI PROMBLEMS, exit ramp, minuits

HI,I HAVE A 95' CADDI SEDAN DEVILLE.I HAD MY DISTRIBUTER CHANGE AT TUFFY'S,WHEN I PULLED OFF THE LOT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON.   (1)WHEN I START THE CAR,WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDDLE THE CARS IS GETTIN GAS AS IF I WAS PRESSING THE PEDDLE DOWN.(2)WHEN IM DRIVING THE CARS JERKS AS IF IT WAS BRAKING AND SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE ITS GASSING ALL BY ITS SELF.(3)WHEN EVER I SLOW DOWN COMING TO A LIGHT OR ON A EXIT RAMP OR JUST GOING A VERY LOW RATE OF SPEED THE CAR CUTS OFF.CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROMBLEM?

Hi T, Sounds like they eithor had the battery disconnected and didn't know how to relearn the idle, made some adjustments they shouldn't have or they put in a defective part. If they also messed with the tune-up adjustments like timing, TPS, minumum idle speed or ISC motor extension then there are special tools and techniques that they will need to do or another shop will need to do to correct the problem.

   First you need to find out what code is stored. To do that press the off and warmer buttons on the climate control panel at the same time with the key on in park and hold them for 5 seconds or until it goes into diagnostics and start displaying the engine codes first and write down the codes that are displayed. I will need to know if there is a single E or EE before the number. To exit diagnostics just turn the key off and the next time the key is turned the display will return to normal.

   To relearn the idle speed disconnect the battery negative cable for 2 minuits to clear the PCM menory. Then hook up the cable and with the climate contol set to off start the engine and let it idle for 13 minuits. Enter diagnostics by pressing off and warmer buttons and when it goes into diagnostics shut the key off. Wait 30 seconds, turn the key on engine off and enter diagnostics, turn the key off. Wait 30 seconds, turn key on, enter diagnostics key off. Wait 30 seconds key on, enter daignostics key off. Wait 30 seconds start engine without touching the gas pedal. Put your foot on the brake and shift into drive for 1 minuit, then push auto on the dash so the a/c and fan turns on and wait 1 minuit. Put the shifter in park and turn the engine off. After 1 minuit restart the engine and the idle speed will be back to normal if they didn't mess with anything eles.

   If the engine speed or check engine light comes on someone over there will need to investigate and fix the problem...preferabley someone from Tuffys since you had them do the work in the first place. In any event I would definitely give the shop manager there a call and explain what happened and ask that they repair the car for free or refund your money because they didn't fix your car they made it worse. There aren't too many times that I have had to replace a distributor and I would be curious to know why when you tell me the codes. Hope that helps. Bill
