Cadillac Repair: Cadillac deville 1993 ac, oxygen sensors, number combinations

Question
I just bought a 1993 Deville with 89000miles on it. It's A/c does not seem to work. It blows air but its not cold. The system held pressure during the A/C test. Also, 1 pound of freon was added. But the compressor does not start. I feel that there is some electrical problem because the radio unit is also inoperable and all the lighted system tend to be quite hot after a few minutes. There are a few codes being displayed. they are E39 and E44. I think one of them is for oxygen sensors and the other for torque converter. but i am not sure about this. My mechanic is clueless. He says the A/c system may be clogged or the compressor is down. Everything needs to be repaired. and then if it doesnot work, it is an electrical problem. All the fuses seem fine.

Answer
You are correct on the meaning of the codes.

ERASE the codes and drive the vehicle for awhile to see if any codes reappear.

Ignition ON, Engine OFF:

1. Push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate control panel for 2 seconds and release.

2. Write down every LETTER/NUMBER combination that appears EXACTLY as they appear.

3. when the display stops at .7.0, Push and hold the OFF and HI buttons until E.0.0 appears.

4. Push and hold the OFF and LO buttons until F.O.O appears.

5. turn OFF the ignition.

6. Drive vehicle to see if A/C works or until the check engine light appears again and then re-enter diagnostics per above instructions and write down all the LETTER/NUMBER combinations that appear.

as far as the A/C is concerned if it does not re-engage after you clear the codes, You will have to put a set of ggaes on it to see where the pressures are at.
