Cadillac Repair: 1992 Sedan Deville fuel system issue, fuel level sender, full tank

Question
I changed the fuel filter and now the car doesn't start. Is there a reset for the fuel pump?

Since the car was new there has been an issue with the fuel system. Once the fuel level drops below 5 gallons the car would spit and sputter and shut down when I'd slow to stop. After several years the problem begins when the fuel level drops to 9/10 gallons. What can cause this?

A few days ago, with a full tank, the car began to spit and sputter while I was crusing at about 70 MPH. It was so bad that the car would only chug along about 20 mph. I pulled over and switched it off and checked a few things. After about 15 minutes I fired it up and it ran fine for awhile. It seems to be the worst after the car has run for awhile. Is this a fuel pump problem?

This is what prompted me to change the fuel filter just to ensure the filter isn't the problem.

Answer
Hi,Mark

Yes it sounds like you have a failed fuel pump, also the fuel level sender could be failing,92 devilles had a fuel tank issue also, the fuel tank baffels would crack and break inside the tank, have the tank pulled down and replace the fuel pump and level sender, while the pump is out, inspect the baffels,if they are broken, you'll need to replace the fuel tank also.
