Cadillac Repair: 98 Deville with problems, fuel pressure regulator, cadillac deville

Question
Hi Ed,

We just recently purchased a 98 Cadillac Deville from a dealer. The car looked to be in excellent condition and I test drove for a week with no problems. We also had the brakes done all around. Recently on a long trip the "service engine soon" light came on and the mechanic at the garage where we had the brakes done put it on a scope and turned the light off after not finding anything wrong. After a few days the light came on again. Is there a way to self diagnose what is causing this?

In the morning when I try to start the car it cranks for several second before turning over. I've run injector cleaner through it once.

Also the rear passenger driver's side window is stuck. It almost completely closed but not quite. I would be happy with closing it and leaving it that way. I tried one of your tips and checked the child lock system the banged on the door panel to no avail.

In the morning when I try to start the car it cranks for several second before turning over. I've run injector cleaner through it once.

My fourth and final problem is that the car's rear suspension seems to remain high. Is it normal to hear a whooshing sound as I walk away after turing the car off.

Thanks Mike

Answer
Hi,Mike

Yes you can get codes yourself by going onboard,to do this press and hold the off and warmer buttons together on the climate control, the dash will cycle and then the system you want to get codes from will be displayed, press the lo fan button to access each computer sys, when you get to the one you want to display codes for press the fan hi button, the systems will display like this PCM? BCM? IPC? etc,the engine codes are located in the PCM?.
The extended crank when cold could be a fuel pressure regulator, they are notorious for leaking fuel into the intake causing flooding and excessive crank to start.
The window problem is a window motor that has failed, and needs to be replaced.
The rear suspension has a level ride sys,it uses a air compressor and air shocks, the noise you hear is the compressor kicking on then relieving air from the exhaust valve, this is normal, the rear suspension should be close to level with the ft suspension,if its higher or lower than the ft then the level sensor on the left rear control arm is missadjusted and needs to be adjusted for proper height.if you need more help let me know.
