Cadillac Repair: 92 Seville 4.9L Wont Start - no spark, bench test, inch space

Question
Thanks for your advice.  I bought a new harness.  It was the ICM that was bad. After replacing it and the harness, the car runs great.  One more thing, though.  There is a another two terminal connector that connects to the ICM, next to the three terminal connector on the harness I replaced.  It, too, was brittle and broke apart.  That connector would be a lot harder to replace because the wire goes down into the distributor.  I simply reconnected the terminals without the connector,  There's about 1/8 inch space between the two terminals.  I'm thinking the voltage between these two terminals is low so there's no danger of arcing.  I may hit the terminals with a little liquid electical tape just in case they move together (which I can;t see happening).  What do you think?

Thanks for your reply.  The ICM failed a bench test so the ICM is bad.  My problem now is the connectors inside the distributor.  They were brittle and crumbled when I tried to insert a new ICM.  Do I have to buy a new harness (over $100) or is there a harness repair kit (connectors) that I can use?

Day before yesterday, car started and noticed a little rough idle but that cleared up soon. Yesterday, car started fine, but as I was backing out of garage, the engine stopped.  It cranks fine but won't fire.  Checked for spark using timing gun and also by pulling plug wire and inserting old plug, looking for arc.  No spark. Pulled distributor cap and checked integrated coil with ohmmeter - looks okay.  Only three history codes come up.  What should I try next?  Thanks.

Hi,Ed

Sounds like the ignition module has failed,if no spark and the coil checks good,i would lean towards replacing the ign module,Good diagnosis on your part,if you need anymore help, just let me know,Thanks

Ed,
There is not a repair kit for the harness,i have had to make my own harness, but the terminals and connector is no longer available,if you can find a harness then that is the best way to go.

Answer
Hi,ED

Those other set of wires run to the ign pick coil or reluctor that is mounted to the distributor,in order to replace it you need to remove the distributor and disassemble the shaft, you can go ahead and liquid tape it and it should hold out fine, its pretty common for those wires to become brittle and flake off due to engine heat.
