Cadillac Repair: caddi ride control, cadillac dealership, control sys

Question
I'm getting a service ride control message on my 1993 Seville. I had my mechanic check it out and he found no problems with the ride control. How can I clear the message? Looking forward to your reply.

Answer
Hi,Mike
The ride control sys on your seville uses a stand alone computer to control suspension operation, your mechanic will not be able to retrieve trouble codes using a scan tool,he would need to access the suspension module and ground its diagnostic lead to access codes.
I can tell you what is the common failure of the sys, though i do not know what codes have stored, usually one or two of the struts have failed if not all 4,the struts/shocks are electronicaly controled by the suspension module, the fix we do now is replace the failed strut/shock and override the suspension module, the electric struts/shocks are no longer availible, to override the sys, a relay needs to be installed in the ckt that controls the data message to the Instr panel cluster,we basically fool the modules in saying everything is normal, this job is difficult for a non cadillac tech,i would recommend that you take the seville to a Cadillac dealership to have this problem diagnosed and repaired,if you need more info or help on this let me know. Thanks
