Cadillac Repair: 2000 cad deville info msg display-tans fluid life, powertrain control module, change thanks

Question
my cad has 75000 miles and the info center continues to show 100% trans fluid life. if this indicates the trans fluid life % message is not working, will the change trans fluid message ever appear? i.e, do they both work off the same sensor or computer chip?  been to several dealers, all they want to do is sell a fluid change!  thanks  butch  p.s. been in several cads with less milage and they all show lesser % than 100%, as i would expect.

Answer
Hi,Butch

The fluid life monitors use several factors to determine how much life is remaining,in your case the trans life uses engine hours, eng average load, eng average rpm,and trans average temp, these are programed in the PCM{powertrain control module},depending on your driving habits and if you tow with the vehicle the trans life will increment down, for instance if the PCM sees heavy loading meaning towing and or alot of eng running hrs it will start to lower the percentage,on a daily driver to and from work ive seen cads hit 75 to 100000 miles and to have the trans life at 98.so im sure you life monitors are working normal,if there was a fault then the display would be 3 dashes ---.
About Cadillacs life monitors for fluids, both eng oil and trans,Cadillac uses these for general guides only,i would recommend under normal conditions to change eng oil every 3000 miles, trans fluid change every 15000 to 25000 miles,if the car is used heavy say for towing, then change the trans fluid every 8000 to 10000 miles.
Hope this helps, any questions feel free to drop me a line,Thank you
