1999 Cadillac Sedan Deville (over 100,000 miles) but has run great (27 mpg on trips) - recently developed a miss and after "check engine" light came one, had diagnostics run.  I was informed that the catalytic converter needed replaced.  Replaced catalytic converter last week; check engine light now off, but miss continued.  Replaced all plugs and miss has stopped.  Drove on interstate trip Saturday and only averaged 20-21 mpg ?  don't think it's going into overdrive?  Any suggestions on where to start checking next?   Thank you!

To check to feel if it is going in and out of over drive:

1. vehicle fully warmed up.
2. Get the car up to 60 mph on a flat or slight upgrade and maintain this speed.

3. using your left foot slowly push the brake pedal down just enough to illuminate the brake lights.

4. Maintain your speed with your right foot.

5. As you push the brake pedal down approx 2" you will feel a slight bump which means the transmission has gone OUT of over drive.

6. While still maintaining your speed let up on the brake pedal and you will again feel another slight bump which is the over drive re-engaging.

Tried suggestion but overdrive apparently is not engaging.  Is there a module/fuse/switch that I should check?

Usually what goes bad is the TCC (TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID which is located next to the valve body when you remove the bottom pan of the transmission .

This is a front-wheel drive model.  Is the location of the TCC different for front-wheel drive?

Thanks again

Answer
OOPPSSS, Sorry about that, Must be old age. The TCC solenoid is located behind the side pan of the transmission right behind the left front wheel on the drivers side. You have to remove this side pan to get to it.

The rear wheel drive is on the bottom pan.

sorry,
