Cadillac Repair: 1999 Cadillac Cater Leveling light blinking, rear struts, radiator fan

Question
Hi, Bill
Frist let me thank you for all the great help you give people.
Bill I have a 1999 Cadillac Cater and the Leveling light keeps blinking. When I frist start the car I hear the compressor come on. It says on for about a minute then shuts off. I did seam to hear a air leak but was difficult to tell where it was coming from.
The air compressor such off before I could follow all the hoses. There is a rubber hose which comes from the compressor and goes up behind the radiator fan and connects to some valve which mounts to the Fan shroud. I don't see the lines going back to the rear of the car.
I will try again tomarrow after work. Hopfully the compressor will have time to reset and it will start again.
I did check the height sensor link, it looks ok.
Thanks, again Bill
Best Regards Peter

Answer
Hi Peter, Looks like you found the site. Thanks for posting the info.

To answer your problem I did alittle research and here's what I found. Under normal operation when the compressor runs the level light will be off. If there is a big enough leak the light will turn on and the compressor can stay on for up to 3 minuits. If there is a problem with the system the level light will flash and a code will be stored that requires a scan tool to read. Unfortuneately AutoZone doesn't have that kind of scanner but you can check because they do scan for free in hopes that you will buy their parts. But sometimes it can be a connector or something else turning on the light so I wouldn't buy any parts before reposting what the code is or have a shop you trust replace the needed part.

Since you heard a possable air leak this is how to check the system. Start up the car and leave it in park. Add 300lbs to the trunk and with-in 30 seconds the compressor should turn on and bring the car height almost back to where it was before the weight was added. Look at the rear struts to see if the air tube is still attached near the top. Then get the help of several people and see if you can isolate where the airleak noise is comming from. It could be a cracked/broken nylon line or a fitting that got disconnected. If the line is broken the Caddy dealer parts should be able to order you a new one and after installing it hopefully the system will be back to normal.

To find a good repair shop in your area Google over to cars.com and on that site is a place you can check for good repair shops. Otherwise try iatn.com and do the same type search. The iatn site is strictly for mechanics/technicians that care about repairing vehicles correctly and hopefully one of those sites will give you good feelings about after talking to the service person about how much they care about fixing cars and such.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help. Bill
