My 81 Cad Deville with 6.0 Liter engine has an intermittent starting problem. At times turning the key to the ON position causes the Air Cond. fan to run but no electricity to the engine. There is also no electricity to the interior. Interior lights, horn, radio, door locks, windows, power seats--nothing works. Then for no reason the problem disappears. It has left me stalled several times and completely used up my AAA towing allowance. Any ideas?

The most obvious problem is a loose and or corroded wires at the starter post where the battery cable attaches and or corrosion of the battery cable(s) internally where you can't see the corrosion due to the plastic covering.

Suggest you replace BOTH battery cables andmake sure that the wires at the starter are clean and tight.

Thanks for the suggestion. The battery cables are OK. The starter is getting lots of fire and the engine cranks pleny fast enough. I have headlights, tail lights and basically juice to everything but the interior. I'm suspecting something in the switch circuit and possibly between the switch and the computer which is causing the wire to the AC fan to go live instead of the wire to the coil. But I am not sure how to check that out. Any ideas?

Answer
OK, Then you need to test all of the rubber coated FUSIBLE LINKS that are at the starter post where the battery cable attaches. These links are about 4" long and run up int the black plastic ribbed wire covering as one of these links has most likely melted internally and must be tested for battery voltage at both ends of the link.
