I have a 1991 sedan deville, with 190,000 miles. It needs an oil pan gasket because it is leaking. What I want to know is "would it be a good idea to replace the oil pump and inserts too, or should I just leave it alone and replace the oil pan gasket
Answer -

I mean main bearings, I think they may be called insert bearing, they go on the crank shaft

Answer
You cannot properly replace the main bearings without pulling the engine. It can be done, but is not recommended to be done this way.

If your going to go thru all this work, You might as well just pull the engine, and purchase a new crankshaft kit.

If the bearings are noisy, then you have to perform the test procedures as recommended in the factory service manual so as to indicate what SIZE bearings that you need to install due to the wear that is on the crankshaft you just cannot install a standard set of bearings without knowing the SIZE.

Due to the crankshaft wear, you have to determine what SIZE bearings to install.
