Cadillac Repair: SUSPENSION, chevy cavalier, arnott

Question
I converted over to Arnott shocks on my '93 STS.  I'm not getting any errors when I run a diagnostic, but wonder why the left rear seems to clunk more than the right.  Could something be broke without sending an error?

Also, I do I clear the "history" suspension codes?

Answer
Hi Elise, The setting of error codes would only happen if the valving solinoid wasn't able to change from soft to firm to soft again. Clunking struts could mean that a bolt or bushing is loose or internally the shock is bad because the oil inside is flowing right by the piston and not dampening it. I had a Chevy Cavalier recently that made a knock because at the top of the shock it moved easily for the first 1" and then started to give resistance. The way I found that was to ride in the trunk on my back with my feet hanging over the trunk edge while someone drove. I put my hand on the strut top and could feel the knock everytime a bump was hit. We only went up to 25mph so wouldn't recommend going faster than that for safty reasons unless you were completely inside with the trunk lid closed. Bounceing the car couldn't produre the noise so a drive was necessary. After checking for a loose shock and a test drive I'm sure that you will then know what to do. Hope that helps. Bill
