Cadillac Repair: changing spark plugs, changing spark plugs, platinum plugs

Question
I own a 1998 Cadillac deville with 92,000 miles. Last week it started to hesitate a little at low speeds on inclines. Is it difficult to replace spark plugs in a 1998 cadillac deville with a north star engine?  are any special tools needed?

Answer
Hi Larry, Changing plugs really isn't a difficult job however because of the aluminum cylinder heads the engine needs to be at room temperature so you don't strip out the threads. Alittle bit of anti-sieze on the plug threads before installing and torqueing them is a good idea. I would recommend useing the delco platinum plugs for the replacements. One thing that they did do is make the plugs alittle bit longer so be careful what socket you use and how far you try to insert the plug because if it bottoms out you run the risk of cracking the top off. It would also be a good idea to replace the wires at this time too because they have taken a set and making them bend so you can remove the plugs could crack the center core and cause the engine to miss or run rougher. Its quite possable that you already have a partially open wire that is making the engine hesitate. And if the fuel filter has been on for longer than 3 years or 36,000 miles change it too. When reinstalling the sparkplug wires make sure that they are at least 2" away from the blower motor or you could damage it if stray sparks jump from a wire to the motor housing. That should get the job done. Bill
