Cadillac Repair: 93 Deville fuel line, fuel pressure regulator, nylon fitting

Question
I have a 93 Deville, about a week ago I found a leak on the pressure fuel line. It leaks were the nylon fitting attaches to the metal line at the tank. I changed the nylon line ( no holes or breaks in the metal line) but it still leaks at that spot. It seems I'm getting some back pressure or an increase in pressure in the line. I'm going to change the fuel filter because it looks like the original. Any thoughts on what the excess pressure could be from?  HELP

Answer
Hi Dan, Anytime you have a fuel leak it is best not to drive the car until the leak is repaired or a fire car start. When nylon lines were first used they didn't recommend repairing the nylon lines but that they were to be replaced as a complete section. Now they make a nylon hose end that can be installed provided the correct procedures are followed. As you know the fuel pump creats the pressure and the fuel pressure regulator will limit it. That being said if you have a restriction or kink in the fuel line then pressue will build up between the pump and the restriction  possably creating a leak. Changing the filter was a good idea and the next thing to do is to install a pressure gauge on the schrader valve at the engine end of the fuel line and see what it is. You could have normal pressure but because of the age of the car the lines eventually get weak and leak. Hope that helps solve your problem. Bill
