Cadillac Repair: Cloth ceiling sagging, front doors, spray adhesive

Question
Dear Sir,

I have a 1986 Bourgham and the cloth ceiling is sagging.  I am 6'3 and the ceiling sits on my head like a hat.  Is there anything I can do to get the cloth to stay on the ceiling without having it redone professonally?  Some have suggested tacking it up, but I have 3 small children under 4 and would not want to take the chance of a tack coming loose and being swallowed.  I greatly appreciate you taking the time in answering my question.  Thank you

Sincerely,

Gregory

Answer
Hi Gregory, Two things you could do other than tacks would be to place a thin 1" wide piece of wood or plastic that would go  between the 2 front doors and tuck into the trim at the edge. 3 or 4 pieces should do it. Otherwise what we do at work is take the headliner and backing out of the car and eithor buy replacement material at the parts store or reuse and glue it back on with a Permatex spray adhesive in an orange can. Anything else we tried and the headliner falls again after 2 days. Follow the directions on the can and then reinstall the headliner in the car. If you started with the front and did a section then maybe you wouldn't have to take the headliner out. Just the trim pieces to gain access to the edges of the material. Hope that helps. Bill
