Cadillac Repair: 1984 auto leveling, faulty component, electrical plug

Question
Hi,
I have problem with my leveling pump.  I think that the sensor does not work, but I am not sure how the sensor and compressor is hooked up.  The rear end drops down after 4 or 5 days and will not inflate itself.  If I put 12 volts on the compressor it pumps up and will stay for a few more days.  I cannot find any schematics showing how the sensor and compressor are hooked up.  Can you tell me if there is a relay or fuse involved?

Thanks,
Bob

Answer
The most common faulty component is the HEIGHT LEVELING SENSOR of which is about 3 inches square and is colored BLACK and has a round multi-wired electrical plug attached to it along with about a 4 inch metal rod.

This sensor is mounted under the vehicle above the raer axle area and the metal rod attaches to the axle.

Replace the sensor as it is most always the problem.

Cost is approx #125.00.

Once you replace the sensor and the system starts to work via the pump running, IF the pump runs more often then usual then you have an additional problem of a leak in one of the air lines that goes to the shocks/struts and or a leaking shock/strut.
