Cadillac Repair: change out digital speedomemter, printed circuit board, cadillac dealer

Question
1996 DeVille. My speedo cluster seems to have died. Heat/AC cluster on righthand side working, fuel economy cluster LH side also working. just the center: speedo, odometer, fuel gauge, turn indiactors, systems monitor, etc., not working. Where do I begin to swap it out? I have found a used one locally for $150. Thanks,Mark

Answer
You are takinh a VERY DANGEROUS RISK installing a USED display. If your getting it from a JUNK YARD there is a 50/50 chance of it being any good and if it should have an internal problem you could cause more damage to the vehicles other components as well as the COMPUTERS.

Take the old one OUT of the dash and LOOK for obvious signs of loose wire connections and or breakes in the printed circuit board. I would have the local Cadillac dealer send ot out for repair and or purchase a rebuilt one thru the dealer. Even though you will pay more, at least you will get a GUARANTEE with it.

One thing to remember, Most ALL electrical components are NOT RETURNABLE. Once you buy it, You own it.

Make SURE that you are POSITIVE that it is the display that is faulty and NOT a wiring problem TO the display.
