Cadillac Repair: 1989 Cadillac Deville Air Conditioner, cadillac dealer, economy mode

Question
Our Caddy had  the A/C service light come on and the "Auto" setting would automatically jump to "economy mode". We took the car in and had the compressor and feon replaced. Out of the shop the A/C worked well for 1 minute and then the A/C auto setting jumped to economy and shut off the A/C. We took the car back to the shop, there is no leakage of freon, the computer has been cleared and reset, relays (black box, under the hood) checked, but we still have the same problem. The repair shop said to take it to the Cadillac dealer to have the problem diagnosed. What could this problem be?

Answer
The MAIN problem is that your most likely spent a lot of money foolishly as it is apparent that this facility did an excellent job of taking your money and NOT correcting your problem.

ANY TIME any facility tells you that you have to take it to the cadillac dealer for a diagnosis AFTER they lifted your wallet this tells you that they have no idea of what's wrong with your vehicle and are ONLY GUESSING.

Tp put it in plain English, You have most likely been taken advantage of and had parts installed and worked performed that was NOT necessarily needed.

I would take the vehicle back to the facility and talk with the facilities owner and DEMAND my money back as they did NOT fix ANYTHING.

Without having access to the vehicle, I need to ask you a lot of questions and I need EXACT SPECIFIC answers.

1. Are you getting ANY CHECK ENGINE light illumination on the dash ?.

2. Does the A/C compressor turn ON (engage) at ALL ?.

3. Does the interior blower motor operate ?.

4. Does the blower motor work on ALL speeds ?.

5. Are you getting air flow from the dash vents, the defroster vents and the floor vents ?.

IF you are or know someone who is experienced in A/C diagnosis and reapir, I can provide you will all the information necessary in order to properly diagnose and test the A/C system and get it back to normal operation.
