Cadillac Repair: MOONROOF LEAKS, moon roofs, cadillac dealers

Question
I have been at two different cadillac dealers and one body shop to have the moonroof leak fixed.  They have been unable to find the leak. The car will not leak while driving, no matter how hard it rains. After it sets for a while and rains for a fairly long time,it dosent need to be a down pour,it will leak at left hand front corner of the headliner where the sun visor shade slides out of the headiner. It wont leak when i get in, but the very moment I take off driveing, water come streaming out for just a few seconds, about 1/4 cup. Every one, including me, can open the moonroof and pour a cup of water through all four drain holes and it will run out just about as fast as you can pour it in. Everone agrees that gasket looks good and appears to touch and seal. It has been garage park always at night. This has just started about a year ago. No one has an answer.  Can you help?  I guess the only thing left is a new gasket.  But it sure looks good.

Answer
Cadillac had and continues to have this problem since they started to put in these moon roofs. I have tried, Body shops have tried, Even complete new moon roofs were tried and we were NEVER successful at finding out WHERE the leak was coming from.

We even started replacing the complete moon roofs and within a couple of months, Some sooner, It was back with the same problem.

We never figured out exactly what was causing the problem and after awhile the dealership stopped selling cars with moon roofs due to these leaking problems.

I really wish I had the answer as I know even the manufacturer would like to know WHY they leak.

My thoughts and several body shops came to the conclusion that the problem was the overall design of the moon roof not being able to stay sealed when the roof of the vehicle flexes during temperature changes of heat and cold.

The best resolution was to have it totally removed and just put a solid piece of tinted glass in it's place as a permanently closed window.

We did this on quite a few and it resolved the leak issues. some customers were NOT happy about our suggestion of a FIXED window but it was either that. Put up with the leak, trade the car or remove the moon roof and have the body shop remove it, sheet metal the hole, sand and paint it so it appeared as though there never was a moon roof and replace the headliner with a standard head liner.

I know this is NOT the answer your looking for, But after fighting with these for many many years this was the only final solution(s).
