Answer -
Cadillac has had this TOTALLY INNACURATE display panel since 1980 and since I have NO CLUE as to what YEAR, MODEL or ENGINE SIZE there is not much information that I can give you.

This fuel range display is ONLY a BASIC AVERAGE of MPG's starting from when you start the engine, Drive thru town, stop at numerous stop lights, numerous stop and go driving COMBINED with highway driving.

It takes ALL these factors and determines the AVERAGE MPG over this time.

This TOY should have been taken out of the vehicle back in 1980 when they first introduced it as I have had to answer this same question at least 1000 times over the last 25 + years as I worked with these vehicles when they were brand new.

Again, This display is only for amusement and is NOT to be relied on as accurate HIGHWAY mileage ONLY.

All forms of driving effect the computations of the display.

After you have been driving on the highway for an hour or so at a constant speed, Push the INSTANT MILEAGE button and it will most likely read in the 20's.

Therfore if driving around town and frequent stop and go's the computation may be in the low 10's and then when you get on the highway you raed in the 20's and if you AVERAGE it out it will be close to 15.

Answer
Calculate your HIGHWAY miles the next time you take a trip with the vehicle the old fashion way of by dividing the total amount of miles you drove as compared to how much fuel it took to refill the fuel tank.

Again, This display is not very accurate and should have NEVER been installed in the vehicle. Whoever came up with this not to bright idea of installing it should be shot.
