Cadillac Repair: 1998 Deville computer system, computer readout, denatured alcohol

Question
On my 1998 Cadillac Deville, the computer "readout" on my dash says, "theft system problem." When I push the reset button on the dash, it goes away, but returns each time I restart the car.  Other than that, the functions of the horn beeping when locking, and lights flashing upon unlock and lock are not working.  The readout says "function off"  I would like to know how to reset all of this to factory settings, or at least how to turn these functions back on.  Since I have young kids, it's a safe bet someone pushed some buttons!
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Bill, The theft system message is telling you that the key pellet might be getting dirty or one of the small wires comming down from the ignition lock cylinder is starting to go open. Try the other key you have and if you get the same message then you will need to get the Caddy to your mechanic to test the PASS KEY system. Or try cleaning the key pellet with denatured alcohol. The dealer has a special tester that plugs in under the dash and when the key is inserted and turned the tester can tell if there is a problem.
As for the factory settings the procedure might be in the owners manual but if not there you will need to have the dealer tech look at it and program it for the way you want. There are several ways to program it and unfortuneately I don't have access to the procedures and options. Bill
