On a 1985 Cadillac Seville, is the ignition switch in the steering column.   From my checking the car and below answer, I believe this is the problem.  I checked out a Cadillac auto book from the library and they said it was in the steering column, under the key cylinder.  So I have to take the cylinder out to look at the ignition switch?  Thank you for your help!

Subject   85 Cadillac Seville No Battery Charge/Electical Dead
Question   Bill,

Thank you for your time! I have a 1985 Cadillac Seville (Elegante). My electrical digital dash lights went out, along with my heater/rear frost defogger and no power windows (my Bose radio works, but no lights to tell what staion is on). My "no battery charge" red light is lit, along with "service soon" lights. I had my battery/generator-altenator checked and all is fine. I pulled all my fuses and they were all fine. The car drives and my head lights/windshield wipers work....but nothing on the dash board. Any advice or do I have to take it in to a tech to see if some sensor or wire got burned out?

Answer   Hi Barry, The ignition switch might be at fault but testing will need to be done eithor by you or at the shop. You will need a wireing diagram and digital voltmeter. Bill

Answer
The ELECTRICAL portion of the ignition switch is located under the dash mounted on the left hand side of the steering column. You will see approx 5 or 6 wires going into it.

The part of the ignition switch where you put the key into is just a cylinder that has a long metal rod that goes down thru the steering column and attaches underneath the above said electrical switch.
