Cadillac Repair: 96 STS Electrical Problems, wireing diagram, wire terminal

Question
Sir - I have a 96 sts that is experiencing electrical problems. The rear stops and turns are out, however no fuse is blown. This started when we began having problems with getting the trunk closed. The power assist on the trunk closer only works part of the time now. Do you have any ideas what this might be? I appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Mike, Trunk units most times develope a bad switch and replaceing it might get things going. However since the light and trunk act up at the same time I would look for a ground wire problem or wire connector in the trunk that might be loose or wire terminal partially backed out. With any electrical problem always first check the fuse and then useing a wireing diagram and test equipment see weather the problem is on the power or ground side. If things started acting up after some work was done then recheck things in that area to see if something was damaged or not reassembled correctly. Bill
