Cadillac Repair: alternaters, serpintine belt, alternater

Question
I have replaced the alternater on my 1998 seville but am having no luck getting the serpintine belt on with the tensioner seeming to give me the most problems. Is there an adjustment or some magic in doing this?

NO there is NO secret. What you failed most likely to do is make an EXACT drawing of how the belt was routed around the various belt driven components and now you don't remember the installation sequence.

Get a book and look at the belt sequence.
