Cadillac Repair: 1996 Cadi Deville Dying, egr valve, oxygen sensor

Question
Bill- i bought the cadi about 6 months ago, in the summer. It has 200,000 miles on it. I have noticed 3 problems..
1. Even when i'm sure the oil is full, it tells me to check the oil level.
2. The SESL light is on and my display is telling me to service my emission system (this problem started only recently)
3. This problem started about 4 months ago..It started to die when i was at a stoplight, or just got back from a long trip, so i changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter (the one right below the drivers door) and air filter, and it kept doing it. It started doing it more often, and i since noticed that it wouldnt do it when it was cool outside (below 60degrees f.). Recently it started doing it more often. What can i do? PLEASE HELP!

Answer
Hi Cody, Glad to here that you only have a few problems. Lets take them one at a time.
1) On the oil pan on the radiator side there is an oil level sensor that probably needs to get replaced. Put a wrench on it and it unscrews after unplugging the connector.
2) Anytime the SES light comes on along with the emmissions light start by getting the codes read and that should point you in the right direction. At that mileage you might have a bad oxygen sensor or EGR valve.
3) As for the dieing problem I would get the fuel pressure tested and possably the fuel injectors too if the pump pressure is good. When the engine is cold the computor richens up the fuel for better running and then leans it out after the engine warms up. I would suspect lower fuel pressure is the cause of the stalling. If you had the battery disconnected or the battery went dead then relearning the idle might be the first thing you might want to do. Hope that helps. Bill
