Cadillac Repair: Fuses and relay locations for 96 Deville (heated seats and trunk motor), jeff zimmerman, cosmetic details

Question
Hi Bill,

I just purchased a 96 Deville and a few cosmetic details are not functioning. The heated seats do not work and the trunk motor doesn't work. They both worked within the past year according to the previous owner.  The previous owner said to check the fuses and relays, however; I'm not sure where they are located.

Also, the previous owner had backed into a post, causing the rear bumper to slide in on its track a couple of inches on the driver's side.  Is there a proper way to pull/rachet the bumper back out to its correct position?  I was planning on seeing if I could use the spare tire rachet horizontally to push the bumper back out on the one side, would this work?

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Best regards,
Jeff Zimmerman

Answer
Hi Jeff, What usually happens with the heated seats is the element develops an open and needs to get replaced. There are 2 in the seat that need to be tested and you can order just the element from Cadillac and then take the seat to a trim shop and get it sewen in. No need to buy a new cover unless the original one is worn out.
The trunk pulldown motor switch might need to get replaced without having to buy the whole motor assembly.
As for the bumper it takes some effort to move it back out. You could try thre tire iron but I would suggest a crowbar which is stronger or a 8-16lb hammer might be needed to persuade the bumper to move. Hope that helps. Bill
