Cadillac Repair: level ride problem, auto recycler, blown fuse

Question
Dear Bill - I have a 1999 Deville that no longer lifts the rear end by the level ride system.  I assume this is a compressor problem.  About how much can I expect for this to cost? Is there a good source for used parts for this? Is it a difficult installation for someone with some but not a lot of experience? Thanks for the help!!

Answer
Hi Scott, Electrical problems can be as simple as a blown fuse or a faulty componant and with out testing the system you can't come to the conclusion that a compressor is the problem. If you don't have access to a shop manual and know how to test useing a digital volt ohmeter then I would recommend that a shop diagnose the problem and then you can determine if you want to replace the part(s) yourself or have them do it. As for a parts source look in the phone book under automobile used parts, junkjards or auto recycler and ask if they have what you need. Also www.junkyarddog.com has a used parts inventory from across the USA and by entering the required info you can have emailed prices. Expect the compressor to cost at least $200 with install at around 1 hour. If you can get tthe car up on jackstands then installing it shouldn't be a big deal provided you have metric tools. Bill
